The Four-Step Implant Technique
Serving Salt Lake City And Surrounding Areas In Utah
At Gateway Dental Arts, Dr. Austin uses Nobel Biocare dental implants for permanent replacement of lost teeth. They are the highest quality, and our master ceramist, Eric Newell, can match their high quality with the superb porcelain teeth he will custom-make for you.
If you would like to discard your dentures and have your replacement teeth permanently and strongly supported by dental implants, it can be done in a simple four-step process.
In the first step, Dr. Austin will give you a thorough dental examination and assess the best way to proceed with your implants. An impression is taken of your teeth and jaws.
For the second step, Dr. Austin may have you get a CT scan in a nearby facility and may use software to map your jaw and plan the procedure. That will ensure that each dental implant is optimally placed.
In some cases X-rays may be used rather than a CT scan. It depends on your particular dental status.
The Dental Implant Procedure
There are two ways we can do the third and fourth steps, and Dr. Austin will choose the method most appropriate for you. They both begin with a local anesthetic.
- In a traditional procedure Dr. Austin will place the implants and may place temporary teeth on them so that you can eat normally while the implants heal. Alternatively he may have you wear your denture a little longer.
As the last step, your new teeth are placed permanently on the implants when healing is complete.
- In the guided procedure, Dr. Austin implements the computer-planned steps using what is called keyhole surgery. This shortens the healing time, eliminates any need for sutures, and reduces potential swelling.
In the final step, your new teeth are then permanently attached to the implants.
In replacing the entire upper or lower arch of teeth, four implants are used in each jaw. That means only eight implants are needed to replace all your teeth permanently. You will be free of the chore of removing dentures for cleaning, and will never again have to worry about an ill-fitting denture. Implants provide permanent and sturdy support for your new teeth, and the teeth themselves will be precisely customized to fit your mouth.
